10. Solve complex system problems

Problem: My Oracle server was running fine last week. It is up and running now, nothing seems obviously wrong but users complain of connection breaks in mid transaction. Problem is not readily reproducible. Which vendor do I call? Tried Oracle, Microsoft, hardware vendor, and other software vendors too. All are pointing fingers at each other. Our IT staff has wasted incredible amounts of time on this.
Solution: In minutes WhatChanged enables you to see exactly what has changed between last week (when it was working) and now (when it is not working). Educate yourself and formulate your own plan to attack the problem.

9. Get help when you need it most

Problem: My manager is a power user and out of the blue, there is a problem with their PC – a cryptic error messages when sending email. Need to get to the bottom of this quickly. My Manager thinks system settings are somehow changed but which ones?
Solution: WhatChanged can show what system settings have changed in seconds – and can restore the machine settings back to when it worked.

8. Have a responsive and effective help desk

Problem: Our IT department supports >2000 users. Often users do not provide sufficient information on the problem. Impatient and frustrated users are harder to deal with, and when you ask if anything has changed on the system they invariably say no or don’t know. It takes longer to first diagnose and then correct the problem. User satisfaction and timeliness of resolution is poor. We constantly feel understaffed and resort to expensive consultants to cope.
Solution: As soon as a user calls with a problem, WhatChanged can provide a change history of the user machine right from your own computer. Better yet, ask all the right questions. Resolve the problem as user is still explaining the impact. Increase user satisfaction, decrease time to respond.

7. Recover the whole system

Problem: A user reports a problem with the server - unable to use services. A trained IT professional goes through troubleshooting and eventually figures out that some services are not starting. He calls vendors but no ready answers are forthcoming. Luckily a backup is available but the only way to recover is to restore the whole system disk, which requires significant downtime and will require a night of testing as well.
Solution: WhatChanged enables you to restore the registry to a known working state in a few seconds. Find out which files were changed, added and deleted. No reason to recover the whole system blindly. In many cases - no downtime. Restore only those files from the backup, which were changed or deleted.

6. Deal with a virus attack or hacking of your system

Problem: A new virus strain has infected your system or hackers have taken down your site. Bad news, bad business, productivity down.
Solution: As a companion to antivirus software, WhatChanged detects changes to the registry or file system on multiple systems from a central location. Detect and quarantine affected systems quickly. Save critical downtime.

5. Increased profit, better customer support

Problem: We sell new computers. We build good machines and provide quality support. Pre-shipment testing has minimized DOA cases. However users still call us with problems. In this competitive market, our profit margin is wiped out if we spend a lot of time supporting the user. Is it something they did? If we blow them off, user satisfaction is poor, if we try and support them, margin is compromised.
Solution:  Include WhatChanged plus a snapshot of the original configuration with the shipment. Figure out what has changed since shipment. Convert a large number of one-hour support calls to five minute calls. Increase customer satisfaction without compromising margin.

4. Manage and control corporate property better

Problem: Hundreds of users at work end up installing junk or unlicensed products. We could police them, but it will take time on our part and power users get annoyed.
Solution: WhatChanged simplifies this complex problem allowing you to manage your expensive corporate asset the right way. Detect what directories are added on any machine on the network in minutes. Keep power users happy but retain control.

3. Have a 24x7 tutor

Problem: We have less than 200 users. We are fully aware that knowledge and expertise of IT staff is key for system availability and TCO. Training for all IT employees is expensive we can't afford it.
Solution: "WhatChanged enables you to see clearly what changes in the system with modifications or a new install, providing excellent insight to the underlying system. Get under the hood, see how the motor works, and transform your good IT staff to the best.

2. Recover from an unreliable or failed install

Problem: You installed a software package only to find that another key application stopped working. You uninstalled that newly installed software but your key application is still not working.
Solution: As you install the new package, WhatChanged automatically reminds you to take a snapshot. If new install doesn't work out, simply restore to the previous configuration and recover cleanly.

1. Insurance

Problem: Even though you are a trained professional, you always worried about changing some key parameters. Consequently, you hesitate to try out some changes that my instinct tells me to solve user problem in order to avoid potentially a bigger problem.
Solution: With WhatChanged you can take a new snapshot before you make any changes. Give your instincts free rein to solve user problem - you have insurance!
